This is a study for a small-scale multiplex for FLIK Cinemas, consisting of 178 seats, and four screen halls in total. In order to provide audiences with a new and different viewing experience, perhaps a more entertaining approach than the classic movie theatres offer, it was decided to reduce the number of seats from the initial 230 to 178, by altering classic movie theatre seats to VIP and Platinum-class seats.

The study had a great deal of difficulty for two reasons, one being the particular location of the cinema on the upper floor of the existing Lagoona Mall, while the other was a swimming pool and pool deck for the public, located above the two of the four screen halls. The greatest challenges of this project were surface area waterproofing, installing acoustic insulation between the pool deck and screen hall area, installing all electromechanical equipment, and the fact that there was not enough room for a projection booth.
The pioneering decision to use a boothless projection system was the solution, and all difficulties were easily overcome afterward. Moreover, this was Qatar’s first branch of the Flik Cinemas chain to be introduced, offering the public an ultimately unique viewing experience.
